RIGHT OF RETURN USA FELLOWSHIP
The Right of Return Fellowship was co-founded in 2017 by justice-impacted artists Russell Craig and Jesse Krimes. It was established by artists, for artists as the first and only national initiative dedicated to supporting and mentoring formerly incarcerated creatives. Right of Return Fellows produces work that advances criminal and racial justice.The annual, open-call Fellowship is intended for people working in all disciplines, including visual art, performance, poetry, sound, media, and design. Each year, six fellows are given awards of $20,000 to support projects and new works that reflect the humanity of criminalized and incarcerated people and build public will for ambitious and visionary change. HARLEM FESTIVAL OF CULTURE X STEVE MADDEN
Harlem Festival of Culture has partnered with Steve Madden to launch the HFC X Steve Madden Design Challenge. The program aims to celebrate the creativity and innovation of the Harlem community; and provide access to mentorship, industry knowledge and career pathways in fashion. Applicants will be provided the opportunity to submit graphic design artwork (not garment designs) to be printed on the Harlem Festival of Culture x Steve Madden Collection items - the Bettyy boot, denim jacket and belt bag. Artists, designers, and creatives residing in Harlem are invited to enter individually or in teams. Entrants must be 18 years or over and a Harlem resident. Proof of Harlem residence is required.

ArtsWestchester is pleased to announce the opportunity for the creative community to propose exhibitions for our gallery at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains in 2023. We are seeking proposals that celebrate, educate, and promote community in Westchester. Our vision is to give artists the opportunity to reflect on the concept of “community” in the broadest sense of definition including geography, ethnicity, common goals, etc. The main floor gallery space will be made available in May and June 2023 for four-week shows, open and free to the public. A $2500 grant will be funded to two (2) awardees for artist honoraria and exhibition-related expenses.

These transformations allow for a range of activities that promote economic development, support schools, and provide new ways for New Yorkers to enjoy cultural programming and build community. PARK AVENUE VIADUCT E 116TH STREET
MTA Arts & Design seeks images of artists’ previous work to review in consideration for a new site-specific permanent artwork, in conjunction with the Park Avenue Viaduct (PAV) Replacement project at East 116th Street in Manhattan. The PAV Replacement Project focuses on the elevated steel structure that carries four tracks along Park Avenue between East 110th Street and the Harlem River Lift Bridge. The MTA’s Construction & Development (MTA C&D) and Metro-North Railroad (MNR) team will replace segments of the PAV from East 115th Street to 123rd Street for Phase 1. The new MTA A&D permanent artwork will be fabricated in durable materials, such as metal. An approved fabricator will be translating the final artwork designs into the identified media.

RESIDENCY UNLIMITED 2023 OPEN CALL
Residency Unlimited (RU) is pleased to announce an Open Call for the 2023 NYC-Based Artist Residency Program. Dedicated to artists who are traditionally underrepresented in the arts, RU’s NYC-Based Artist Residency Program is accepting applications from artists who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color, with research-based practices that bridge gaps in historical knowledge. The School of Education at The City College of New York invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in Arts Education & Urban Equity to begin in the Fall of 2023. Curationist invites graduate students, faculty, librarians, and community-based researchers to apply for the Curationist Fellows Program. The Fellows program offers a 6-month period to advance their existing community, scholarly, artistic, or educational projects within the Curationionist platform, with collaboration and support from our team. Collaborative curation of open access cultural heritage content has great potential to advance and expand educational opportunities. How can the treasury of quality digital content, verified and cared for by by galleries, libraries, archives, and museums, be freed by open access policies without reproducing cultural appropriation and erasures? Curationist Fellows will have the opportunity to consider this question and more, hear from guest speakers, and share and receive feedback on their research. Each fellow is expected to publish their research on our editorial platform, with support from Curationist’s editorial team.

The Critics of Color residency critics will have an opportunity, with the support of facilitators and mentors, to research and craft cultural heritage content. Participating critics develop up to three critical and creative pieces of content to be featured on Curationist. All Critics of Color residents become a part of the Curationist community, and their work informs and expands the metadata for images of art and artifacts they write about.

ARTCRAWL HARLEM: BOUNDARIES & CONNECTIONS
The ArtCrawl Harlem Boundaries & Connections residency house is located on the scenic setting of Governors Island, NYC. The program is ideal for artist who do not have access to functional studio space in which to work, exhibit and safely engage the community. Here, artists in residence are provided studio space, meet ArtCrawl Harlem staff and professional development advisors, conduct research, engage with the pubic, produce work and exhibit their artwork.
ArtCrawl Harlem welcomes emerging and professional artists working in various visual arts mediums to apply. ArtCrawl Harlem is interested in artists whose work is process-based and geared towards filling gaps in familial, historical, political, cultural and emotional knowledge.
Each year selected artists in residence are charged with creating a series of artwork (5 or more pieces) based on a theme who desire to further enhance their ability as storytellers via their artwork. The 2023 Artist Residency Program theme is ""Boombox"". The boombox was German invention, later known as a ghetto blaster. The boombox redefined how sound, music, voice and rhythm taking up space in public areas; the playground, family gatherings, and main street, USA. 2023 NALAC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
The NALAC Leadership Institute (NLI) is an immersive week-long arts leadership and professional development program for Latinx artists, arts administrators, and cultural workers working in all media or disciplines. The NLI takes place in-person in NALAC’s hometown of San Antonio, Texas and includes visits to local cultural centers and historic sites. Elizabeth River Project’s Ryan Resilience Lab will be a multi-purpose learning lab that incorporates advanced and easily replicable sustainable/resilient design technologies and techniques throughout the building and site, demonstrating environmental resilience to sea level rise. An artist will be selected to create a site-specific public art project for the environmental non-profit Elizabeth River Project at the site of their new Ryan Resilience Lab in Norfolk, Virginia to be installed September 2023 with a total budget of $50,000.

The Union Square Partnership (USP), in collaboration with the NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), is seeking a professional working artist to design and install a temporary street mural at Union Square in the pedestrian areas along the north and south sides of 14th Street, between University Place and Broadway. The mural will be primed and painted over approximately three days in late May

What Can We Do? (WCWD?) is a micro grant program that supports AAPI artists and their community care projects in New York City. It was created in response to the sharp increase in anti-Asian hate and violence during the pandemic which caused many people to experience grief, anxiety, and fear. WCWD? empowers artists and gives them a chance to find their place in the ecosystem of care through their talents and community connections.

VISUAL VOICES: RFQ FOR VISUAL ART CURATORS
JCAL invites proposals from Queens-based curators for Visual Voices, a paid, three-year curatorial initiative (2023-2025).
Visual Voices curators will receive fiscal, strategic and institutional support to propose and mount exhibitions in JCAL’s galleries and partner spaces that explore themes reflective of the BIIPOC experience in Queens and, more broadly, in New York City.
Visual Voices curators will guide JCAL exhibitions with new and returning community-based partners, and as part of JCAL’s annual Open Call, and for special projects. Curators will receive a minimum of $4,000 per project.

SUSTAINABLE ARTS FOUNDATION AWARD
This year, SAF will make awards of $5,000 each to twenty artists and writers with children. Additionally, we will name twenty finalists.Our awards offer unrestricted cash, which recipients can use as they like. Our selection process is focused almost entirely on the strength of the submitted portfolio. Artists and writers with at least one child under the age of 18 and a strong portfolio are welcome to apply. SAF is inspired by anyone making creative work while raising a family. Given the intense demand for these awards (we typically receive 2,000-3,000 applications), and the fact that the awards are based on demonstrated excellence in your discipline, we don’t recommend that artists or writers just beginning their creative careers apply to this program. Note the Free application deadline is February 3rd.

Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) invites New York City-based visual artists to apply for its Artists Residency and Training Seminar Series (ARTWorks), a Fellowship that focuses on career sustainability. During ARTWorks, six artists will regard their practice as a small business, identify entrepreneurial and professional goals, and generate a long-term plan to accomplish them.
In doing so, ARTWorks Fellows receive the practical knowledge to navigate the aesthetic and socioeconomic complexities and substructures of the New York art world.
