The Bronx Council on the Arts is seeking applications to curate its Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos Spring 2022 group exhibition, Geographies of the Self (March 25– May 27, 2022). STEVIE WILSON DIY YOUTH ART RESIDENCY
The Stevie Wilson DIY Youth Arts Residency is for individual youth artists, ages 16-25, who have been formerly incarcerated or criminalized. You are invited to design a DIY (do it yourself) creative residency to support your creative vision and can request funds between $1,000 to $5,000 to buy your time back in order to create art on a dedicated schedule. A creative residency is an opportunity for artists of all disciplines to fully immerse themselves in their creative practice. A DIY (do it yourself) creative residency can take place at any location and over a length of time of your choosing. Unlike institutional residencies, which require an artist to live or work at a specific site, a DIY creative residency can take place anywhere. Rather than focus on the production of a specific project, the DIY creative residency offers an opportunity for artists to buy their time back in order to create art on a dedicated schedule.

Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) is a three-year, $125 million initiative that will provide guaranteed income and employment opportunities for up to 2,700 artists throughout New York State. Alayo Akinkugbe graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in History of Art in 2021, and she is the founder of the Instagram platform, @ABlackHistoryOfArt, which highlights Black artists, sitters, curators and thinkers from Art History and the present day.
